We (myself, wife, and friends Matt and Ellen) hit the CompUSA at the Palisades Center last night for their midnight opening. The planning phase was delightfully successful, we arrived around 10pm and were the 8th group in line. We were after the $199 LCD deal as well as smaller items including a 200gb hard disk which was on sale for $29 after rebates.
When the doors opened, I pushed through the crowd like a hot knife through a grandmother, rolled past the entry displays while doing a classic grab-and-spin on the 100-pack of DVD-R’s, and snagged the LCD. While trying to figure out which hard disk was the one on special, my wife got told the wrong information by a sales associate, and then ended up holding nothing when some crazy people broke into the glass case which had the drives.
All in all, we ended up with an impressive 17″ Samsung LCD for the wife, I’m holding down a nice 5-port USB 2.0 card for my Linux box which doesn’t have USB 2.0, and a nice 7-port USB 2.0 hub with the top-loading ports for memory sticks. Not awful.
Mind you, my wife is the real crazy person. We got out of the mall around 2am, and she was back out the door at 4:30am to get the door-buster specials at the clothing stores. Sleep for me, thank you so very much.
