Bad Touch

I’ve had a rash of people in the office throwing out my cups while I’m away on errands or whatnot. It’s getting to me, and I’m nearly ready to bust out Ye Tool of Remediance.

But how, how to put forth the message that I’m ready to beat people down over a small issue without turning it into an HR issue?

Finished up a report today for work, and it turns out that 65% of our desktops are under 1Ghz, 128MB of RAM or less, and running Windows 98 with Office 97 and Outlook 98.

Excellent.

I know we’re not-for-profit and all, but come ON, people.

Today we take a trip into Poetry Country, courtesy of my favorite, Gene Wolfe.  This is a reprint of a 1977 poem entitled The Computer Iterates The Greater Trumps.

So basically it’s Gene, tarot, computers, and weirdness.  Can’t say I could pack anything more into my day even if I had an espresso IV drip and ten pounds of smack.

Go read.

ZOMG SPEEDS

So on Thursday night, my cable modem dropped out around midnight. Of course, I was in the middle of moving about a gig of files, so I went slightly insane. Did the normal plug/unplug routine, then called the cable company only to be told my area was being upgraded.

Upgraded?

Well, sure. Why not? Came back up around 2am, so I checked it out, and…

Hell yes. HAY-ULL YES.
