I’m guessing that the educational system in Tennessee somehow skipped over the entire history of the world from the time that guns were invented.  This is the only acceptable excuse, as any other reason she might supply for making this statement would likely horrify me even further.

My family adopted Pippin when I was 13. He passed away in his sleep last night around 2:30AM at mom and dad’s place back in Michigan, age 15. He’ll really be missed. Pets are a hard thing. You come into the deal knowing what’ll happen in time, but you can’t trade it for anything in the world.

Rest in peace, little guy.
