OK, so Jorge pointed me at a repository that had Banshee 0.11.0 which is good. I installed it, I rebooted, it rocks the socks off the fox. Plugins rule, mini mode rules, the podcasting support rules.
Speaking of podcasts, Jorge himself appears (appears? In audio?) on a recent podcast on Linux.com talking about the Linux Terminal Server Project, which I am given to understand involves more rocking of pants.
